Origins

Origins

→Kula was created by NESTS, a secret crime syndicate planning world domination. They used the King of Fighters tournaments to destroy the strongest fighters in the world so that this would be easier. Three of these fighters were Kyo Kusanagi, the powerful, youngest leader his clan had ever had, Iori Yagami, a member of the Kusanagi's rival clan, and a young woman named Chizuru Kagura. These three were descendants of the families that had historically sealed a great, powerful evil called Orochi. Each had special powers - Kyo and Iori could control flames while Chizuru could teleport.

→NESTS also had little projects. One was to clone Kyo Kusanagi. This created K', a dark skinned boy with white hair. Another was a clone of K's sister, Seirah, who was then named Whip. A man named Maxima was also imparted with various robotic parts.

→Soon enough, K' and Maxima rebelled against NESTS, and two top scientists, Diana and Foxy, were ordered to oversee the "Anti-K'" project. They cloned Kyo again, but created a girl this time, and altered the DNA so that their project could control ice instead of fire. A little girl with red hair, Kula, was the only success. Her hair is always red until she uses her powers.

→NESTS brainwashed her and made her forget her past in an effort to keep her from rebelling. They sent a robot named Candy on all of her missions to watch her, and to make sure neither rebelled like K' and Maxima, they sent Diana and Foxy along as well.

King of Fighters 2000
→NESTS sponsored this tournament and K' and Maxima entered to figure out NESTS plans. Kula was sent into the tournament, too. A high ranking NESTS official, Zero, began to create the Zero Cannon to destroy Southtown, the epicenter of the KoF tournaments. This makes the pair the sub boss and boss, respectively.

→Meanwhile, Kula waits near the end of the tournament to kill K' and Maxima, but is defeated. K' and Maxima move on, but Kula decides that the two aren't trying to hurt anyone, and so she shouldn't be fighting them. This plants the seeds for her eventual betrayal.

→Diana and Foxy receive news that the clone Zero created to make the cannon for him is trying to use it for personal gain, and so Kula is ordered to forget about K' and stop Clone Zero. She decides to use her power to help people, and so Kula, Foxy and Diana stop Clone Zero. Kula, however, decides to go one step further and destroy the cannon, too.

→Kula is certain she's going to die reentering the earth's atmosphere, but Candy intervenes to save her.

→Candy is "killed" in the process, but repeats: "Kula, friend" over and over again as Kula holds her remains, prompting Kula to ask Diana and Foxy what a "friend" is.

King of Fighters 2001
→K' and Maxima meet Whip and accept her into their team. They begin to destroy NESTS bases around the world, and two new NESTS agents are assigned to Kula's team - Angel and another Kyo clone, K9999.

→K', Maxima and Whip of course enter the tournament again this year, and make it to the finals. Kula is separated from the rest of her team, and she and K's team are lured into a spaceship by the original Zero. They are then taken to the satellite that orbits the earth and serves as NESTS headquarters to meet the leader of the syndicate.

→Meanwhile, Foxy and Diana are attacked by Angel and K9999, who were assigned to kill Kula, Foxy and Diana. Foxy is gravely injured, and Diana is left to tend to her wounds while Angel and K9999 escape. Nests, the CEO of the NESTS syndicate, is killed by one of his agents, Igniz. Igniz then declares himself the true leader of the group.

→Igniz mocks Kula, Whip, Maxima and K', calling them "playthings", but when he is defeated by K', he snaps and attempts to crash the satellite to earth.

→The satellite manages to land safely in the ocean, and everyone makes it to shore - except Kula and K'. K' spots Kula in the water and decides that NESTS has ruined all of their lives, and they all deserve a chance.

→He pulls her to shore and decides to start a partnership with Kula, Foxy and Diana. Foxy and Diana, for their part, have decided to forsake NESTS because the man they admired, Nests himself, is now dead, and they have come to view Kula as a daughter.

King of Fighters 2003

→This makeshift family has spent the previous two years taking down the remaining NESTS bases and teaching Kula to be a normal girl. However, K' and Maxima are approached by Chin Gentsai, the leader of a regularly competing KoF team, to enter the tournament. He claims that something is wrong, and wants K' and Maxima to investigate, so they enter with Whip.

→A new team has entered as well - an effeminate man named Ash Crimson, and his teammates Shen Woo and Duo Lon. This team aims to steal the powers of Kyo Kusanagi, Iori Yagami and Chizuru Kagura.

→K's team makes it to the finals, where they find a man named Mukai. who claims to be part of an organization called "Those From the Past". Mukai taunts K' about his status as a clone, and K' becomes determined to prove himself as a powerful fighter in his own right, not just as Kyo's clone. After defeating Mukai, the group is transported to a strange location. Whip decides to call Diana to see how Kula is doing and to tell her what's happened.

→Kula becomes interested in what's going on with the tournament, and after teasing K', the team decides to head back.

→Ash, for his part, manages to steal Chizuru's power and marks Iori as his next target. When Iori responds violently, Ash uses his new found power to teleport behind him, a clear taunt, then disappears.

King of Fighters XI

→K' and Maxima enter the tournament again, and Kula insists on being a part of it, leaving Whip to join her own team. At the end of the tournament, they find Shion, a feminine young man who fights with a long spear. After being defeated, he is seemingly killed by a mysterious man named Magaki, who says that he and Shion are also members of Those From the Past. After he is defeated, a rift opens and Shion's spear flies out of it, killing Magaki.

→Meanwhile, the presence of Orochi in the tournament sends Iori into his "Riot of Blood" state, and he attacks and knocks out Kyo. Ash uses this chance to defeat Iori and steal his power as well, using it to intimidate his best friend and claiming that Kyo will be next.

→Another ally of K's team, Heidern, invites Kula and company onto a cruise liner to discuss Those From the Past. Kula is rather distracted, and focuses on getting Whip's attention. However, she senses something and her hair shifts to blue instinctively. Just then, one of the ships escorting the liner explodes.

→Two children appear on stage, claiming to be the ones who blew up the warship. They also say they're taking back Magaki's body, though they "owe him neither a favor nor [their] loyalty."
